Telecommunications information Minister Dr Edmond Mansoor said, “The future is here,” as the country forges forward in the area of technology.
This is the eighth year since the fest’s genesis and 2012 is being dubbed “the biggest ever”.
We have put on an excellent exhibition … We have literally outgrown this space,” the Minister said as he referred to the packed Multi Purpose Center, crowded with people and exhibits.
The 4G revolution in Antigua & Barbuda is set to expand further, as Dr Mansoor explains that another telecoms company has been in talks with the government to launch its product in short order.
“We are twinning ICTs with career options and fostering entrepreneurship. We will no longer be just consumers of what the Internet has to offer, we will contribute … in a meaningful way,” the minister said.
He pointed out that some 80 percent of Antigua & Barbuda is connected to the Internet in one way or the other, and the revolution plays well with the government’s intention to make the country a “net worth” poised to compete effectively in the region and the wider world.
Prime Minister Baldwin Spencer said the fest is undoubtedly the biggest showcase of ICT in Antigua & Barbuda, reflecting the mass contributions to employment, education and overall development.
“ICT Fest is model example of the government at work for the people of this nation. I am proud to be associated with this event and look forward to a successful three days of discovery innovation and success,” the PM said.
He congratulated Dr Mansoor for “the unwavering passion he has brought to the sector” and ensuring that the country is strategically positioned to lead the sector in the region.
“As the world advances in IT we cannot be left behind. And I can assure you that we will not be left behind … Our quest to make IT and ICT accessible to all … is a serious promise,” the PM said.
