Interviewed by William Idrissi;

Celebrity makeup artist Danielle Delgandio has worked with numerous clients and studios, so it was no surprise when her expertise was sought in the fashion photography shoot Untamed with Director Michael William-Paul giving her the opportunity to work with Nina Burns from America’s Next Top Model at MWP Studios in heart of New York City’s Fashion District.  We recently chatted with Danielle Delgandio in New York to learn about the experience working with Nina Burns, and gain some much needed insight in the highly anticipated and unorthodox look Nina Burns displayed for this dark fashion film released on halloween. So lets get right to the full scoop!

W: First off, Do you have any advice for those young women out there who want to have that super model look?

Danielle Delgandio: Well I would say start with the basics first, and that means pay attention to your technique.  A healthy glowing complexion is always fashionable. I like to start with or mix into a foundation a liquid illuminator. Some of my favorite illuminizers are Nars’ “illuminator”, Laura mercier’s “illuminating tinted moisturizer” and make up forever’s up light face luminiferous gel”. These products mixed in with foundation give the complexion a flawless healthy glow.

W: Are there any trends or fad’s in make-up that you are really into at the moment?

Danielle Delgandio: Trends are an amazing way to inspire both the public and professionals. It reminds us that make up is self expressive and it gives us a chance to view a new color palette in a different way. I personally pull inspiration from the atmosphere from which I’m working in. Which is why I enjoyed this shoot. The passion, creativity and talent for this business between both Michael William Paul and Nina Burns really inspired me to push the boundaries. We all have such a passion for what we do and I think everyone will be able to see that in the film.

W: How long was the entire shoot?

Danielle Delgandio: Oh gosh, I think we started at 12 and then went to 7pm the first day, then we actually called for a day two with more shots to cover because Nina inspired Michael to go further.  The video which was really creative and pushed nina burns to express herself comfortably. When a model feels comfortable in her own skin, even when in action, it shows, and thats what a good makeup artist is here to inspire.

W: Sounds pretty successful, but were there any problems or pitfalls?

Danielle Delgandio: Her hair needed to be wet for a effect and it was drying too quickly, running back and forth on the set to make sure she was perfect was hectic for a bit until I was able to “tame” her few frizzes with a mixture of water, baby oil, and TRESemme Tres Two spray

W: What make-up was used?

Danielle Delgandio: Mascara eyeliner shadow make-up forever, Body too, legs, face and body foundation, powdered it with the hd white Finishing powder

W: What was the shoot like?

Danielle Delgandio: it was amazing! I loved working with both of them, everything was super professional and laid back but everything was fast fast fast, I really enjoyed working with them both personally and professionally.  It’s so important to have a positive energy on set, makes the energy flow.

W: How would you describe the studio environment?

Danielle Delgandio:Very clean and open, white, and professional. With a entire private makeup area that many studios do not provide of which I immensely enjoyed.

W: Would you hope to shoot in the studio again?

Danielle Delgandio: Absolutely, its a great space, allows for limitless creativity, I would highly recommend it to co-workers, friends and family, honestly, I would also recommend such a space to the people I might not even know.

W: What is in the future for Nina Burns?

Danielle Delgandio: I think she will go very far, she has a great personality at her disposal and is very intuitive about the movements of her body, her motion was exceptional. I think she will do great things just being the way she is.

W: What about Michael William-Paul?

Danielle Delgandio: I thoroughly enjoy working with him for so many reasons. His professionalism, his perspective, its how he gets the right shots, sees the perfect angle and lighting, I know that no matter what happens, he makes sure he gets the shot, I completely enjoy working with him. Simply a great photographer and I cannot wait to work with him again.
